Date: 2025-02-09 04:19 am (UTC)The White Dragon! I loved Jaxom with one big caveat: did he ever give his first girlfriend anything nice? I didn't think he gave her enough stuff in exchange for fucking her. And he never properly broke up with her. OTOH the way he rescued his second girlfriend was pretty badass, so there is that.

Date: 2025-02-09 08:57 pm (UTC)It's been so long since I read The White Dragon that I didn't remember the first girlfriend, but yeah -- he kind of treated her as a bit of a convenience, didn't he. I think my biggest complaint about Anne McCaffrey was that she was never very nice to her female characters -- and then I have to remember that the first two Dragon Rider books were written in the late 1960s and well, people weren't so enlightened back then.
