Characters/Pairings: Mozzie
Spoilers: S4.4 - Parting Shots, S5.3 - One Last Stakeout

Summary: Mozzie knows that he needs to make the hard decisions. He’s only looking out for Neal. A follow-up to Pulling Strings.

It still surprised him that Neal hasn’t figured it out by now. But, then Mozzie was a meticulous planner, and not even the unexpected could trip him up.
But he was a little disappointed. Back from Cape Verde and it was all too apparent that Neal was going through a phase, more interested in pretending to be a custom-made Suit than in using his god-given and Moz-refined talents.
Eliminating Ellen Parker was unfortunate, but necessary. And when “Sam” showed up, all the pieces fell into place. A suggestion here, a nudge there, and Neal was right where he was supposed to be. Of course, a little well-played craziness never hurt, either. Neal, who was more perceptive than most, still didn’t see behind the mask. He never did.
As always, Peter was the unwanted complication. But this time, he really thought he had it all sewn up. Like Kramer, Hagen was an easy purchase and unlike Keller, was as predictable as the moon. James was gone forever, Peter got suspicious just at the right time, and there was no way that the new handler was going to sink his hooks into Neal. Moz wasn’t going to let that happen again.
Except that was exactly what happened. Siegel was a hell of a lot more perceptive than any baby Suit had the right to be. He seemed to know just what buttons to press with Neal, and of course there was the allure of all that family money. Even Moz found the idea of a well-made Suit nearly irresistible.
Killing him was necessary. Not because Siegel had seen his face. But because Neal was messing up, getting sloppy. Apparently, he needed Peter to keep him on his toes.
That was reason enough to restore the status quo.

Date: 2013-11-02 05:03 pm (UTC)I love Mozzie liek whoa, and he seems like such a sweet (however eccentric) guy...but really, we don't know a whole lot about him. So, Mozzie as evil mastermind is totes my headcanon. Damn you.

Date: 2013-11-05 06:59 pm (UTC)It had long been of the belief that Maddie was behind all of Michael's troubles in Burn Notice...and my portrayal of Mozzie is of a similar train of thought.
Thank you for your feedback and the plot bunny.
