Straight men in gay roles have often been featured on the cover of Out magazine, but rarely have gay actors in gay roles had the same opportunity. Not because there aren't gay actors or gay roles, but gay actors are rarely cast in prominent gay roles, especially dramatic roles.
Matt Bomer will be featured on the cover of the June/July edition of Out.

Shana Naomi Krochmal interviewed Matt Bomer for Out magazine and he talked about how he wanted this part, how hard he lobbied for the role of Felix, how he not only dropped forty pounds, but the research he did on what a man with advanced HIV/AIDS would look like in 1984.
It's also interesting to note that when Ryan Murphy told Larry Kramer about Matt's interest in the role, Larry was worried that Matt was too beautiful.
And for those planning on watching The Normal Heart with young and impressionable children, there is apparently a vigorous sex scene between Ned and Felix early in the movie.
The article is stunning, and is very interesting to read in conjunction with the recent article in The Hollywood Reporter about the early efforts to bring the story to the screen. For those who haven't read it - Barbra Streisand held the production rights to TNH for a long time and could never come to an agreement with Larry Kramer on the story changes she wanted.
