Summary: Obi-Wan Kenobi has never known it, but he has always been the Force’s Champion, destined to suffer infinite sadness in defense of the Light. On his last turn on the wheel, responsibility for The Chosen One, the false child of prophecy, had been thrust upon him with no warning, and Darkness held the upper hand.

But this time, the Force has marshaled its power and will protect its Champion until the time is right, no matter how long Obi-Wan has to wait and how much he has to suffer.

Or,

Obi-Wan is reborn as a twelve-year old.

He wakes up on a slavers’ ship, with all of his prior life’s memories intact, and he’s bound for Tatooine with a Force-inhibitor collar around his neck, a bomb implanted in his spine, and no way of knowing what state of the Galaxy is in.

Just another day in the life of the Force’s Champion.

Chapter Summary: Qui-Gon returns to the Jedi Temple with a rather fantastical tale. No, not the return of the Sith. Not his former padawan’s resignation from the Order. No, he tells them about a young slave boy with a massive midi-chlorian count who he wants to take as his new padawan.

This time around, the High Council is listening.

Meta - Chapter Seven - Hope Belongs To the Landscape

As always, I am deeply grateful for all the love you’ve given this story, the outpouring of comments on the last few chapters - the guessing on where the story is heading - makes me so very happy.

Last week I mentioned that I’d crossed the 154k word mark, and there were 31 chapters written. I was feeling rather pleased with myself, and if course that was the kiss of death. I read over the last two chapters and decided I hated the course they were going. Too much old-fashioned hurt/comfort, taking the story in the wrong direction. So, I needed to wield an editor’s scalpel and cut, cut, cut.

Ten days worth of work (about 12k) came out in about 5 minutes. Of course I saved the words - a fair bit of them have already been recycled. I’m back to the 154k / 31 chapter mark, and I feel like I’m back on track, the plot is going in the direction it needs to.

Yoda and a failed meta datapoint

Today’s meta is a little brief. I’m embarrassed to admit that I can’t find any source material for what I mainly wanted to write about.

Qui-Gon glances at Yoda, who had once refused to intervene and allowed child soldiers to be sent prison in Hutt Space.

I read about this in the Wookieepedia article on Yoda, or at least I thought I did. I can even remember the picture that accompanied it, it was from a comic book. But the reference is no longer there, in either the Legends or the Canon article. I’ve spent several hours looking for it in Wookieepedia without any luck, and I’m pissed off, because this datapoint is very telling about Yoda’s law and order character.

If I ever find it, I’ll revisit in another meta.

On Obi-Wan and his luck

"Watto the Toydarian is a degenerate gambler, and believes that Obi-Wan is his 'lucky piece'. According to both Shmi and Obi-Wan, Watto has prospered immensely in the two years since acquiring Obi-Wan - he never seems to lose in games of chance, his business deals all go his way, and his shop makes money, which is a hard thing in the rough edges of Mos Espa."

Master Koon nods. "Even with the Force-inhibitor collar, Obi-Wan's m-count is so high, he’s spilling a high concentration of the Light side wherever he lingers, which can be perceived as 'luck' or 'good fortune'. It would be possible to turn that luck, but one would have to keep this Watto away from Obi-Wan for quite a while. Weeks or months on end."

Yes, yes, I know the Force doesn’t work like this, but hey, this is fan fiction. And honestly, I don’t think even George knew how the Force actually worked.

But I just want to say that I was inspired by a Star Trek Deep Space 9 episode, Rivals (link goes to the Star Trek wiki site, www.memory-alpha.fandom.com) for this particular gift of Obi-Wan’s massive midi-chlorian count.
