Notes: For those of you who have read other Halcrest stories, this one takes place before the events of Brothers of the Watch and The Outcast, but at the same time as Scarce Loyalty. Links to prior parts of this story can be found at the Sons of Obsidian Master Post
( “You handled yourself well today.” Damien took a seat on his pallet and pulled off his boots.
Cole blushed as he followed suit, but then silently cursed himself. There was no reason for him to take such pleasure in the praise. Two weeks as Damien’s servant may have changed his mind about wishing for an honorable and immediate death, but it hadn’t turned him into a meek slave eager to please his master. )
