I find it very hard to believe, but it's October first. I'm wearing socks and shoes, a sweater and a shawl. I was COLD this morning.

Sadly, the leaves haven't started to change color here. I need to check with my New England-based sibling to see if she's got any fall color this year - last year was a complete dud.

House (still unnamed) is still wonderful (and is she ever going to be anything but?) Unpacking is going apace, especially now that my shelving has been installed. Did twelve large boxes over the weekend. Wrenched my shoulder (ouch) on Sunday, so I stopped early.

But I've gotten all of the boxes for the dining room unpacked. I think that during the 18 months that my mother and grandmother's glassware was packed away, it had mad sex and just kept reproducing. I could have sworn most of it sold during my tag sale, but apparently none of it did. And none of it broke, either. My mother never wanted to use it, she was too afraid it would break, but it's apparently indestructible. Of course it all has to be hand washed, and I spent most of last Thursday with my hands plunged in hot, soapy water. The crystal is all bright and shining and put away in the breakfront. My cuticles are not.

There's a lot stuff for Goodwill and/or a local consignment shop, or anyone on my flist who'd like to own a dozen sets of English bone china trios (cups, saucers and cake plates, each in a different floral pattern). They are free, except for the cost of shipping, to a good home, and are in perfect condition. PM me if you're interested, and I'll take some pics.

I hope the electrician can come soon and put up the dining room chandelier. Then the room will be ready for use.

I still haven't cooked anything other than reheatables in the microwave. I've been fairly negligent about unpacking the boxes in the kitchen. Maybe tonight.

Little things that make me happy:

1 - Four farm stands within three miles of the House. Two within walking distance. I will have the serious sadz when tomato season ends.

2 - Taking out the garbage. Yeah, I know that sounds bizarre, but bear with me. For 16 years, I lived in a condo with community dumpsters - big, tall things with lids. I'm not short, but I'm not strong (not anymore), and it was not easy lifting heavy bags of garbage over my head. Now, I just take the stuff twenty feet down the driveway to the curb. The magical garbage fairies come during the day and take everything but the trash cans, which I joyfully wheel back to the garage when I get home. Now only if the postal fairies would start bringing me my mail...

3 - My front porch. I have an old Ikea chair and an old stool that serves as a table, and on weekend mornings, I like to sit on my front porch with a cup of coffee and the New York Times. Which brings me to...

4 - My neighbor's cat. I haven't officially met my neighbor, but I've met my neighbor's cat. It's very friendly. It was walking through the bushed and saw me. It meowed, I meowed back, which was apparently an invitation to join me for coffee. It walked around to the front of the porch, came up the steps and sat down. I meowed again, it chirruped back at me and then jumped on my lap and started purring.

I sneezed. And sneezed and sneezed again. It looked at me in disgust, hopped down and sat on the decking with its back to me, just long enough to pose for a photogragh.

My neighbor, on the other hand, I've not met, but I've seen her come and go. She's a strange old lady, we wave to each other and I think that I have to find something nice to say before I ask her to stop clipping my lawn with her tires as she pulls her car up to the curb. Or I can get some railroad ties as temporary edging and avoid talking with her altogether.

5 - Writing. The mojo's back. I can't quite yet work in my office yet, there are still too many things that distract me (like all of the boxes in the spare bedrooms that need to be unpacked). So yeah, I spend a few hours at 'bucks on Saturday and Sunday evening, working on my Poly Big Bang. It's a serious A/U, no physical h/c this time, just a lot of emotional complications. It's a challenging story, something a little different from anything I've written before. I'm trying to give it a thousand words a day.

I still have some prompts from the Trope Meme I opened last week, and RC is pushing me to do Winterstar's icon meme. If I do do that, I'm going to limit it to the first 10 responses.

I still plan on starting up Prompfest this Thursday.

And I can't forget about Caffrey-Burke Day later this month. I've got a Wonder(ful) Years story to finish for that. If I can't finish that, then I'mma doing picspams of the slashiest moments from each episode.

And what has made the the happiest?

6 - My friends, in real life and internet life. You've been so patient with me, listening to me blather on about my House, sharing my frustrations and my joy. Don't want to think about what I'd do without you.

And since you're all so wonderful, here's something to brighten your Monday morning:
