On his last turn on the wheel, responsibility for The Chosen One, the false child of prophecy, had been thrust upon him with no warning, and Darkness held the upper hand.

But this time, the Force has marshaled its power and will protect its Champion until the time is right, no matter how long Obi-Wan has to wait and how much he has to suffer.

Or,

Obi-Wan is reborn as a twelve-year old.

He wakes up on a slavers’ ship, with all of his prior life’s memories intact, and he’s bound for Tatooine with a Force-inhibitor collar around his neck, a bomb implanted in his spine, and no way of knowing what state of the Galaxy is in.

Just another day in the life of the Force’s Champion.

Chapter Summary: Obi-Wan has an evening out with friends, Bail gets the help he needs, Darth Sidious gets an idea, Komari Vosa gets her marching orders, and someone ends up having a very bad day.

Meta — Chapter 31 — Only After Time Passes Do You Know Which Is Which

As always, I am deeply grateful for all the love you’ve given this story, the outpouring of comments on the last chapter — the guessing on where the story is heading — makes me so very happy.

281,855 words, 51 chapters

Slightly slower week this week. The medical thing I had last Thursday knocked the stuffing out of me, and I really didn’t get my mojo back until Sunday. So about 6500 words, net. And finished Chapter 50, which is going to be the first chapter of Book IV. And it’s a monster, at 9400 words. But the loose threads I needed to tie up are now tied up, and I dropped one bomb that’s a real doozie. I’m delighted by it, to be honest.

There’s a lot going on in this chapter

But oddly, there’s not much behinds the scenes commentary (which will likely change when comments roll in).

The Obi-Wan/Bail kissing scene. That is honestly purely gratuitous for me. I do ship Obi/Bail and while it’s not going to be end-game here, I wanted to give these hot young men a chance to find some comfort in each other.

Bail nods. "It’s not a love match this time around. She’s made it quite clear her interests are engaged elsewhere, but she will be faithful until our children are born."

"She’s able to carry children in this timeline — she didn’t have that climbing accident?"

Bail’s lips twist into a bitter smile. "Oh, she did have a climbing accident. Broke her arm and shoulder, both healed just fine..."

This is taken from Leia: Princess of Alderaan, which explains why Breha couldn't carry children. She had a climbing accident as a teenager that badly damaged her lungs.

A couple of readers had commented asking why Bail hadn’t been tested for Force-sensitivity, given what was revealed in last week’s chapter, and Alderaan being generally Jedi-positive. Bail, in this timeline, is an only child (he had several sisters in the other timeline), and as he relayed in this chapter, his Force-sensitivity wasn’t particularly pronounced until three years ago. His father might have realized what Bail’s comments and insights meant, but they didn’t affect his day-to-day life, so he didn’t have him tested.

Should I apologize for that skeevy scene with Sheev? Yes. I’m sorry. But he’s just sooo skeevy that this is exactly what he’d do. So yeah, ick. Ick. Ick. Here, have some brain bleach.

I almost feel sorry for Komari. She’s failing on all fronts.

Hope you all enjoy!
