Yeah, personally I think there's still a gender (sexual orientation) divide on saying that to a friend. It wasn't a bad thing -- it made me warm and happy -- but it did tip me off to a "love" relationship that went beyond friendship. I'm no authority, of course! I'm sure others will have not come to that conclusion. My reading of it is probably informed by many variables such as Midwestern upbringing and personal ideas about the word 'love' in general, etc.
Also, I forgot to say (because I was enthralled by the whole feet thing) that I love that show! And it was just adorable to have Neal, accomplished artist, crying over how awesome it is. :-D
